Well, I was just thinking about POTC, and I came to a conclusion that when there's a series of film, no matter what it is, the first one is always the best. And I stand by the with POTC as well.
The first film was the most hilarious, amusing, and adventurous. It was a new and original story that I enjoyed to watch, because the storyline was still fresh and uncomplicated.
The second film was a little more confusing, because the storyline stretched out even more, but it was still funny, and even though I already knew the personality of all the characters, I still learned a little bit more about their history and their being.
Now, the third film was a joke. There were too many random things going on that I could barely keep track of the storyline. There were less funny moments, but more bizarre things that I didn't understand. It was okay to watch, but like I said; the first film is always the best.
Your opinions?

Ditto, allthough I enjoyed the third a bit more than the first.
The first movie was new and sxciting. You had no idea what to expect, and I loved the blend of adventure and romance. Moreover; it was completely believable. You know that things of that nature atleast were legend to have happened. The characters were funny and somber at exactly the right moments, and it left you stunned at the end.
When the second movie came, it was unexpected due to the fantastic ending of the first. It was such a wonderful surpise, you thought 'the first was a wonderful movie, I can't wait to see the second!' The cult had not yet begun, and the enthusiasm was purley for the quality of the movies. The plot itself became quite far-fetched, and unreal. This was still acceptable; because it was still in keeping with the legends. It was allright, but the ending commanded a third.
I, as did Myst; felt that the third movie was a bit of a joke. The cult had at this point taken over, and the third movie came about because it had to. The plot was extrememly far-fetched, two many sub-plots that were barely explained, and the special-effects took over the movie. I also thought the humor was still good, though a bit more adult than the previous had been. Really, the only scene I enjoyed was the one at the beginning, wiht the hangings and the little boy who sang. It was remarkably well done and I was like. *jaw dropped*. That scene gave me shivers.
All in all; yes, I am a PROUD member of the cult of pirates, and yes, I would flock to see any others if they made them. I bought folders for school and skull+crossbone socks, I flip out everytime I see anything with the pirate logo on it. *bandaids in wallmart* But the movies themselves have decreased dramatically in quality, which makes me sad.
I think, the moral is; when you come up with a kick ass movie like the first POTC; it should be left as wonderful, not stretched out to cheesy quality simply for the profit.

I live by the philosophy that the first is always the best when it comes to movies. the first is something meant to catch attention, while the sequels are usually just to make more money. I didn't like POtC after it got huge because of that popularity...I like to be original and go against the flow. haha...I thnk it's funny that my spell check is telling me that POtC should be pots...random...
I agree with Anne about the favorite scene in the third one...I saw it twice and almost cried both times because of it. That scene in itself was, to me, worth making the movie. I didn't like, however, the soap opera tone that took over. Seeing the movie for the first time made me confused, seeing it the second time just left me dumbfounded. I am a sucker though for special effects, so I liked it in that respect - and I liked the humor...but I think if you're making something just because the first was a success, it's not going to be as good.
I think that what was the most annoying to me was the way half of the sub-plots you could totally see coming, and the other half they didn't explain at all (Calypso and Jones....saw it within the first 30 minutes...the little british guy who's name is escaping me - no explanation of his history but too many references to make me skim over it). I almost feel like I need a third movie just to explain all that, but then the plot would be quite odd...Elizabeth is pregnant, who is the father!? Jack still loves her, she's tired of the 10 years away from Will and now she's in a bout of depression for being the death of Norrington! lol...I might actually pay to see that...and laugh... (no offense to anyone who likes soap operas...)
Now Star Wars, that was totally different...but Kate won't get into that...
