Allright. Your first job is to choose: is your character Brittish, or a Pirate? Got that done? Good. Here's the options.
Pirates can be:
Captain: The head of the ship. A captain's word is law. No one messes with the captain.
First mate: Second in command, and will become captain if anything happens to the existing captain. They hold almost as much authority, and are just one step down.
Weaponry Master: The weaponry master looks after the armory, and ensures that all weapons are clean, and in good working order. They also outfit the crewmates with the proper equiptment. When not doing this; they will help the deckhands.
Deckhand: There are typically many deckhands on each ship. They carry out the everyday chores, such as manning the sails, and making sure that everything is ship-shape!
Cabin Boy: The lowest form of working class on a ship; the cabin boy does all manner of odd errands, and is little more than servant, though still a part of the crew.
British characters can be:
Admiral: Similar to a pirate Captain. They are in command and in charge of everyone. An admiral's word is law.
First Officer: An admiral's right-hand man, and socnd in command. They are one step down from admiral, and have allmost as much authority. They would take over command of the ship should anything ahppen to the Admiral.
Weaponry Master: The weaponry master looks after the armory, and ensures that all weapons are clean, and in good working order. They also outfit the crewmates with the proper equiptment. When not doing this; they will help the subordinates.
Subordinate: There are typically many subordinates on each ship. They carry out the everyday chores, such as manning the sails, and making sure that everything is ship-shape!
Servant Lad: The lowest form of working class on a ship; the servant lad does all manner of odd errands, adn is more or less the equivalent of the pirate Cabin Boy. They would probably be a common boy, not yet an officer.
--or--
Passenger/Nobility: If you do not want your character to be a navy man, they could be a noble, or a passenger. They do not have a job onboard ship other than to enjoy the passage and the company! But be ware...the journey may not be smooth sailing; these waters are ful of pirates!
